Bali is the smallest province of Indonesia, which consist of Bali Island, Nusa Penida Island, Nusa Lembongan Island, Nusa Ceningan Island and Menjangan Island.
The area of Bali Island is 5780 kms2 (153kms wide and 112kms from north to south)

Indian traders brought Hinduism by the 7th century. Nowadays, more than 80% of population is Hindu in Bali.

The earliest human tools were found in western Bali, dated back more than 30000 years ago.

The first Europeans in Bali were Dutch (1597). Indonesia was a Dutch colony.

Bali is densely populated, with 4.22 million residents by this year (2014).

Every village in Bali has several temples (or pura, in Balinese). There are three kind of temples: The Temple of the Origin wish the most important one, placed at the entrance of the village. In the middle, The Temple of the spirits who protect the community; and The Temple of Dead, at the end of the village.

Ceremonies and Rituals are very important, being determined by the phases of the sun, the moon and the stars.

Daily offerings everywhere. They are basically made of small pieces of food and flowers on palm leaves.

Balinese dance and music are present in the everyday life. Dance is learned by practising and performing.

The Balinese house is built inward: a garden, a temple and separate small buildings (or bale) for each activity cooking, washing, bathroom, bedrooms. At the outside there only is a high wall.

Older children take care of the younger ones in their family or village.

The weather is tropical monsoon with temperatures between 20 and 33 centigrade. The wet season starts in October and finishes in March.

Amazing sceneries with paddy fields are  easily found in the south and central area.

The first tourist resort was located in Kuta Beach (1936). The island became famous not only for its beautiful beaches, but also for its culture.

Active volcanoes – The island is placed in the most active region in the World (called “ring of fire”), having peaks of around 2000mtshigh. Gunung Agung is the tallest peak in the island (3142mts high)and the most sacred place.
