Planning a trip or vacation can be exiting and stressful, but also discouraging in terms of money. Well, we do believe that travelling could be much easier, cheaper and affordable if we simply take care of some details.
That is why we are staring this new section called “Travel Tips”.
Today we will share some tips to save money buying flight tickets:
# Start planning in advance.
The very first thing is to figure out what you want to do, where to go, how much time you have and, more or less, how much money you can afford to spend.
Take your time to do your own research and compare.
The most flexible you are, the most money you can save.
# Figure out airlines and routes possibilities.
The best and easiest way to know about flights is by using a flight engine. They ‘sometimes’ have good offers/deals as well, cheaper than the proper airlines themselves.
Some Flight Engines: Expedia (they have a great after sell service), Sky Scanner, Optifly and Momondo.
Another option to see all the airlines and routes is visiting the Airport/destination website. Then go directly to the airlines websites.
# Choose ‘Flexible Dates’ to compare.
Keep in mind that more people fly on weekends.
On the other hand, Tuesdays and Wednesdays usually have best prices.
# The cheapest price, the worst time.
Most of the best prices are for those flights early in the morning (around 5am) or late at night (after 23hs). For those cases, you should take into account if there is any public transport or if you have to take a taxi, and how much it will cost.
If early in the morning, you could take the last public service the day before and spend the night at the airport. Check out this website to see how good (or bad) is your airport to sleep in and its most comfortable areas to take a nap: Guide to Sleeping in Airports.
# Visas and airports fees
Some countries, depending on your passport, will charge visas and/or fees when arriving and sometimes when you leave the country too; and we have to pay them, there is not option. So, they are part of your budget.
# Subscribe to your most used airline’s newsletter and became a ‘frequent flier’
So you will receive their offers and special deals by email.
You will also accumulate miles to change them in the future for a free flight ticket or a discount. Sometimes you can transfer miles from other people or vice verse.
And finally remember…
The best moments when travelling don’t usually cost any money: breathe the atmosphere at the street, meeting people and making new friends, listening to histories, walking along the beach , enjoying a sunrise or sunset, getting lost and feel the freedom.
… will continue.
