Cairns is located on the north eastern coast of the state of Queensland on a coastal strip between the Coral Sea and the Great Dividing Range.
Cairns was founded in 1876, due to the need to export gold discovered on the tablelands to the west of the inlet.
There’s a gorgeous LAGOON to swim in all year round and a boardwalk to walk on at sunset or run on at sunrise.
The success of local agriculture helped Cairns to establish itself as a PORT, and the creation of a harbour board in 1906 helped to support its economic future.
The sea water is warm and you simply will not notice how long you have even been swimming.
The GREAT BARRIER REEF is the largest reef in the world measuring 2011 km in length and 72 km across at its widest point making it the world’s largest World Heritage Areas.

CAIRNS ESPLANADE includes a swimming lagoon with adjoining barbecue areas.
Cairns is renowned as the gateway to two of the world’s greatest natural attractions: the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest.
The lagoon is patrolled by lifeguards.
MULGRAVE RIVER – Some of the 1315 km² catchment area is protected with the Wooroonooran National Park and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

BARRON FALLS – The rainy season is the best time to go, especially after very heavy falls.

The ESPLANADE MARKET gives shoppers a good showcase of locally produced products.
Cairns INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT is located 7 km (4 mi) north of Cairns City between the CBD and the Northern Beaches.
The LAGOON overlooks Trinity Inlet.
DOT PAINTING is a traditional Indigenous technique art . Indigenous Australians used to paint stories and legends on caves and rocks to represent their religion and history.
The Esplanade LAGOON has 4800 mt2 of saltwater.
The CAPITAN COOK HIGHWAY runs for approximately 76 km (47 mi) northwest to Mossman.
Like most of North and Far North Queensland, Cairns is prone to tropical cyclones, usually forming between November and May.
Before the British settlement, the Cairns area was habited by the Walubarra Yidinji people. The area is known in the local Yidiny language as Gimuy.
GREEN ISLAND is a coral cay located about 45 minutes by boat from Cairns.
